Reasons to Consider Spider Vein Removal

rectangle June 22, 2016 /

Do you avoid wearing shorts or swimming apparel because you don’t want others to see your spider veins? Even minor skin imperfections can make a big impact. Little things that others may not notice, like spider veins, can stand out bigger than life. Technology comes to the rescue with the Sona solution for removing spider veins.

What are Spider Veins?

Spider veins are dilated or stretched blood vessels that have a branching pattern and are commonly found on the thigh, lower leg and occasionally on the face. On the face, they are often referred to as broken capillaries. They can be easily confused with varicose veins, but are not the same.

  • Spider Veins are smaller, flat, red, purple, and blue vessels
  • Varicose Veins are large, raised, swollen blood vessels

Spider veins are progressive in nature and usually increase in number and visibility with age. They are caused by increased pressure in the veins. The question of why people get them, and some don’t is unclear, but doctors say the tendency of those who get them is hereditary. Other factors that can cause spider veins: occupations (standing for long periods of time), obesity, and hormonal influences.

When to Consider Spider Vein Treatment

  • If you have visible veins on your legs or thighs that have a branching or web-like pattern
  • If you have a pattern of branching veins on your face that you try to conceal
  • If you feel that your spider veins are a sign of aging that you would like to eliminate

How to Treat Spider Veins

There are many different ways to treat spider veins. At Sona MedSpa we use lasers that are typically used to treat small to medium-sized blood vessels that usually occur in the face. During treatment, a handpiece is passed over the skin and the laser light is absorbed by the blood, causing the vessels to coagulate and be absorbed by the body. Plus, there is little downtime!
