Light Treatment Therapy
Do you need light therapy treatment?
If you suffer from chronic psoriasis, eczema, vitiligo, lichen planus, chronic contact dermatitis, or other rashes, light therapy could help reduce the symptoms and put your skin condition into long term remission. Our dermatologists have experience treating all types of rashes—and they have options that can help you too.
What is light therapy treatment?
Light therapy, also known as phototherapy, is exposure to specific wavelengths of light administered for a prescribed length of time. It is used for treating many different skin conditions including psoriasis, eczema, vitiligo, and acne, among other things.
How can light therapy treatment help?
UVB phototherapy has been shown to be effective in reducing the appearance of psoriasis, eczema, chronic contact dermatitis and other rashes. Ultraviolet radiation is used to suppress the immune system and reduce inflammatory responses. Since psoriasis is caused by an overactive immune system, light therapy can be helpful in reducing symptoms. Narrow-band UVB and excimer lasers use the wavelengths of ultraviolet light most effective in reducing inflammation, while minimizing exposure to other wavelengths of ultraviolet light to reduce the risk of side effects.
How does light therapy treatment work?
Your dermatologist will use the Excimer XTRAC excimer laser* to target small areas of the body, or for widespread disease, can use our Narrow-band UVB lightbox. Treatments are usually painless, and typically take less than 10 minutes. Multiple treatments are required.
*Availability varies by location. Check with your local Sona for more details.
Book appointment now- XTRAC laser and Narrow-band UVB lightbox are used to treat psoriasis, eczema, vitiligo, lichen planus, chronic contact dermatitis, and other rashes. XTRAC laser can be used to treat small areas
- Lightbox can treat large areas. Treatments are usually painless and fast
- Ultraviolet B light penetrates the skin and breaks down the DNA of T cells
- Multiple sessions are required for the best results
What kind of results can you expect
Most patients require treatment for months or years since the types of conditions treated by light therapy are chronic. With the XTRAC laser, surrounding skin isn’t affected, but with the lightbox, all expose skin will be treated. Results can show up with four to six weeks but lasting remission usually requires long term treatment.
- Each treatment takes only minutes
- The surrounding skin isn't affecting with XTRAC
- Start seeing results within 4 - 6 weeks
