Age Spots and Sun Damage
Target sun damage and restore your complexion
Spending time in the sun can be one of life’s pleasures—but not when it damages your skin and contributes to age spots. If you’re noticing blemishes and dark spots that weren’t there before, you should know that you have options. Find out how treatment at Sona can address those imperfections and leave you with a vibrant complexion.
What are age and liver spots?
Age spots, also referred to as liver spots, are dark spots on the skin that occur on sun-exposed areas. Age spots result from an excess production of skin pigment called melanin. Skin aging and exposure to ultraviolet rays are contributing factors to age spot production, which most commonly occur from the age of 40 onwards.
What does sun damage look like?
No matter how diligent you are about sun safety, as you age you’ll inevitably start noticing the damage sun can do to your skin. Burns and frequent tanning can lead to uneven skin tone and marks on your face that don’t seem to fade. Sun damage might show up in the form of age spots ranging from light brown to red or black, freckles, and melasma, a discoloration caused by the body overproducing melanin after being directly exposed to sunlight.
What is AFT?
Advanced Fluorescent Lighting (AFT) is the next generation IPL (Intense Pulsed Laser) technology. It uses pulsed light for phototherapy to treat skin conditions related to aging, an active lifestyle, and sun exposure. With a selection of specially designed hand pieces, AFT treatment can be customized to your pigmentation and coloration needs.
How does AFT work?
AFT technology diminishes the appearance of spots by working beneath the skin. Using multiple hand pieces at varying wavelengths, the light energy gently heats the outer layer of skin. The pigment is drawn to the surface of the skin and will appear like dark or prominent freckling, which will slowly flake off as the skin heals over the next one to two weeks. Between three and five treatments at regular intervals will give you the best results.
- Applies light energy and heat to outer layer of skin
- Stimulates skin cells with pulsed fluorescent lasers
- Pigment is drawn to the surface of the skin
- Reveal an improved, consistent complexion
