How Does Botox Work?
September 10, 2019 /
Botox is an industry-leading injectable that can erase the unwanted lines and wrinkles that you’ve started to notice every time you look in the mirror. Botox is a neurotoxin that occurs naturally in all sorts of places – plants, animals, dirt and water. The toxin acts on the nervous system, weakening or paralyzing muscles in the area introduced. Botox is a quick 10-minute treatment that works beneath the surface to help reduce the muscle activity that causes fine lines and wrinkles. When used in the forehead area, underneath the eyes or around the mouth, facial muscles are unable to contract, so the skin covering those muscles also remains relaxed.
What areas can be treated?
A few common areas include worry lines on the forehead, the “elevens” between the eyebrows and crow’s feet near the eyes. Other areas that are treated include an eyebrow lift and smoker lines around the mouth. Many of our providers also can also use Botox to do smile lifts and treat the masseter.
How much Botox do I need?
Botox varies per person and the location that needs to be treated. The average unit per client is between 35-70 units. The forehead lines are the most used face muscle and takes more units to treat, where an eye brow lift is a smaller muscle and only needs a few units to treat. Sona’s experienced injectors help you achieve the look you want.
When should I see results?
Botox is not an instant change, the area treated will gradually become smoother. First signs will start appearing about 3-5 days after treatment, with the best results becoming effective about 2 weeks after treatment.
How long does Botox last?
Botox will maintain a refreshed appearance for about 1-3 months. After 3 months frown lines start to return, and it’s time to head back for another treatment. Sona now offers online booking for Botox so planning your next visit should be a breeze.
